The US Women’s National Soccer Team made the headlines yesterday with their impressive 13-0 win over Thailand in the first game of the Women’s World Cup. While the national news is buzzing with stories of the team as a whole, we think it’s important to highlight the local athletes that have made it to the big stage.
Three Georgia-raised women were named to the National team roster this year, Morgan Brian from St. Simons, Kelley O’Hara from Fayetteville, and Emily Sonnett from right here in Marietta.
Both Brian and O’Hara were members of the World Cup-winning roster in 2015 while this marks Sonnett’s first World Cup appearance.
Cauthorn Nohr and Owen is a huge fan of the US Women’s National Team as a whole but we are infinitely proud of the local athletes competing in France. We’ll anxiously be watching as they take on Chile this Sunday!
